The International Hellenic University (IHU) and the Department of Civil and Emergency Planning (PSEA) are hosting the hybrid Awareness Event titled "Global Catastrophic Risks", taking place at the IHU’s Serres Campus, on 3-4 April 2025.
Background
The event brings together experts, decision-makers, and academics to discuss the latest challenges and solutions in security, disaster management, and emergency response. This special event is held in collaboration with the European Standardisation Technical Committee on Societal and Citizen Security (CEN/TC 391, WG2 and WG3). Keynote speakers and panelists will address how emerging technologies, standards, and standardisation practices are being leveraged to tackle both natural and man-made disasters.

Over the two-day hybrid event, participants will learn more about a wide range of topics, including:
- Crisis Management and Civil Protection Standardisation
- Information Management for Action
- Good Practices for Security and Protection of Public Spaces
- Smart City Digital Twin Platforms
- Safety Culture in Civil Protection Operations for Wildfires
- Virtual Reality in Disaster Management
The event will kick off with a welcome address by Dr. Aikaterini Poustourli, Head of IHU’s PSEA Department and HSbooster.eu Expert.
All speeches, interventions, and discussions will be held in English.
HSBooster at the event
Representing HSbooster.eu, Maria Giuffrida, Deputy Project Coordinator, will take the stage during the second session on Thursday, 3 April, from 12:15 to 12:30 (CEST). Her presentation, titled "Strengthening Standardisation through the Horizon Project HSbooster.eu", will highlight the project’s contributions to the European standardisation landscape.
Maria will also showcase how HSbooster.eu has supported projects addressing key resilience challenges, including robust supply chains (energy and natural gas distribution, transport, and infrastructure), risk management, and hybrid civil/defence responses (civil crisis preparation and emergency management).
