Training Session 5: Standardisation in Practice
Roles of National Standardisation Bodies (NSBs) and Identifying Gaps in the Current Standards
21 December 2023 | 10:00-11:30 CET
In general, one country can have many organisations that develop standards or participate in standards development. However, only one organisation can represent a national interest in regional and international organisations for standardisation. That organisation is the National Standardisation Body (NSB). As countries' industries are not at the same level of development, some countries have one national organisation for standardisation that performs all formal standardisation tasks. In contrast, others have several organisations that develop standards. Some NSBs set many national standards yearly, and some do not develop them all. However, all NSBs provide channels for most regional and international standardisation activities. The best way to participate in the European and international formal standardisation process is through NSBs.
The HSbooster.eu Training Series Standardisation in Practice aims to make European NSBs' activities closer to researchers. Through various topics relevant to researchers' activities, the training sessions of this series intend to introduce the work of national standardisation bodies and provide some answers on how the NSBs can support research projects.
This training session aims to explain the role of the NSBs based on the case of the national standardisation body of Ireland – NSAI. Furthermore, the winner of the prestigious Young Researcher Award by CEN and CENELEC, Dr Sweta Malik, will train us on how to identify gaps in the current standards.
Who should attend?
The training session is intended for the researchers who participate in EU-funded R&I projects and anyone interested in the basics of standardisation.
