Project Name: Deep Learning Powered Holographic Microscopy for Biothreat Detection on Field
Description
The HoloZcan project is an innovative initiative focusing on enhancing societal resilience against Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear (CBRN) incidents. This project is primarily centered around the development of an autonomous biodetection device, employing advanced technology to detect and analyse potential CBRN threats. Digital Holographic Microscopy Combined with Fluorescence Microscopy: The project demonstrates the application of this novel technology in civil security, particularly in field measurements. This technology is a significant advancement in detecting and analysing microscopic particles and organisms in various environments.
Key Objectives:
- Development of Autonomous Biodetection Device: The main technological goal is to create a groundbreaking device capable of detecting CBRN threats autonomously, utilising cutting-edge methodologies in biodetection.
- Standardisation in CBRN Incident Response: The project aims to contribute to the development of new standards or the improvement of existing ones, particularly in the realms of CBRN incident response and biodetector performance. This includes field measurement efficiency and control measurement standards.
- Knowledge Sharing and Training: An integral part of the project involves the creation of documentation and training materials, which could serve as valuable resources for standardisation processes in the future.
Standards Utilised and Developed:
- Military Standards: Incorporation of standards like ATP 45, which are critical in military contexts.
- Indoor Air Quality Standards: Adherence to ISO standards related to air quality, crucial for ensuring safety in indoor environments.
- Optical Measurement and Cleanroom Standards: Employing standards for the optical measurement of aerosol particles and maintaining cleanroom conditions, essential for accurate and uncontaminated data collection.
- Biological Content Analysis: Establishing guidelines for sampling and analysing the biological content of air, including the preparation of microscopic slides with particles.
Areas for Standard Development:
- CBRN and Security Standards: Identifying gaps in current CBRN and security standards, aiming to develop comprehensive guidelines.
- Biodetector Performance: Focusing on the creation of standards for evaluating the performance of biodetectors, especially in field measurements and control measurements.

As the HoloZcan project nears its conclusion in eight months, it has achieved significant development milestones and demonstrated its utility in civil security through various events. The project's goal is to find connections with ongoing standardisation processes in this field and contribute to the development of missing standards. As the project coordinator, I aim to involve our consortium partners in this process.
