Project Name: Fully connected VIrtual and physical PERovskite photovoltaics LAB
Description
To provide access to reliable and harmonised measurement protocols for perovskite and perovskite-based tandem solar cells providing an accurate, reproducible, and realistic power rating to compare results of different devices
among different project partners and external stakeholders (RTOs, industries, etc), VIPERLAB will strive to develop
new procedures, e.g. power rating, to be used in the development of new technology-based international standards. Indeed, some initiatives have already been launched, for example the IEC 61215-1-series as a preconditioning procedure for the commercial thin-film PV devices. There is a Power rating procedure as defined in IEC 60904-1-1
for multijunction solar cells, but due to the unstable behaviour of perovskites, it is necessary to constantly improve the stabilisation procedures used in IEC standards.
As the primary perovskite PV R&D phase evolves further towards implementation and deployment, there is a critical
need for clarity and guidance in the measurement and reporting of the power rating and long-term performance of
PV cells/modules that incorporate perovskites. VIPERLAB will address these needs by informing the starting
community about the development of standardised measurement protocols via targeted networking events and by
providing material, equipment, and tool designers and suppliers with practical and realisable targets to be met for implementation in production environments. This will accelerate industrial deployment as well as provide more certainty to market analysis and predictions and in turn allow for more reliable risk management in the investments that are required to bring these technologies to market.
The obtained results will be disseminated to IEC committees, i.e. IEC TC 82 (WG2&WG8), IEC TC 113 and the ISOS organisation, for implementation into international standards in order to provide a framework for comparable power rating and reliability- and lifetime-testing of perovskite-based PV devices.
Input for this WP will mainly but not exclusively come from WP7-JRA1, WP8-JRA2, WP9-JRA3 and WP10-JRA4,
especially WP9-JRA3, and output will mainly but not exclusively go to WP2-TA1, WP3-VA1, WP5-NA2 and WP6-
NA3.
Networking events may comprise workshops and meetings, side-events at conferences and webinars and are to be
organised in an as CO2-neutral manner as possible. CO2-offsetting for flights will be mandatory.
