PROPLANET

Project Name: Enhanced Safe and Sustainable coatings for supporting the Planet

Description

PROPLANET engages together to develop novel coating materials to substitute PFAS-based coatings, thereby tackling the problem from a sustainable business perspective, enabling the protection of the environment, and ensuring human safety. The main goal of PROPLANET is to design and optimize three innovative coatings for industrial sectors: textile, food packaging, and glass.

  1. Crosslinked biopolymer oil/wax microcapsules in polysaccharide matrix (hydrophobic, oleophobic bio-based coating).

  1. Hybrid siloxane biobased coating (non-stick and anticorrosion protection bio-based hybrid coating)

  1. Hybrid siloxane coating (anti-soiling (AS) optical properties (OP) hybrid coating).

The value chain of each developed coating will be optimised starting from the raw material source to the end of life of the products, ensuring a circular economy. All coatings will be designed based on safe and sustainable by design (SSbD) concepts and optimised with mathematical computational tools such as first-principles-based models, in-silico models, environmental fate models, and sustainability assessments. The novel coatings will comply with regulations, standards and certifications. This will facilitate the technologically proven products to enter the business development with greater acceptance and relevance.

Standardisation Objectives :

The objective  is to prepare the roadmap for the standardisation of the tests (including health and environment), procedures, processes, materials and analysis for the novel developed coatings by PROPLANET team. Standardisation of LCA, s-LCA, LCC for these novel coatings is also included in the given roadmap. R&I institutions (TEC, NILU, NIC, HOLOSS) have suggested the existing standards and industrial partners (AITEX, REEPACK, PLK, NM, RUKA) have confirmed those standards.

a) Map the standards available and applicable.

b) Adapting needs to suit existing standards

c) Revision of existing standards

d) Need of new standards and steps to development of new standards

Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services

1. Mapping has resulted number of standards . Selection the most relevant standards is challenging. We intend to buy existing standards

2. Some tests has been modified to suit existing standards

3. Need of new standards are identified.

  • Need for a test guideline for in vitro Comet assay for genotoxicity assessment (NILU exploring possibility of submitting SPSF)

  • Need for a test guideline for Colony Forming Efficiency assay for cytotoxicity assessment (NILU developed SOP for SPSF application)

  • Need for test guideline for Non-Genotoxic Carcinogens for carcinogenicity assessment (NILU is contributing to the ongoing OECD project 4.94)

New Standards development is a long drawn process .

a) SOP's for SPSF

b) SPSF application

c) Co-operting with national bodies for development of standards

Guide them through the development of new standards and how them as consortium can contribute effectively.
