FLASH-COMP

Project Name: Flawless and sustainable production of composite parts through a human centered digital approach

Description

FLASH-COMP is a European project with a total of 13 partners and a total budget of 6.7 M€ for a duration of 42 months.

The aim of FLASH-COMP is to develop a human-centred solution that can detect defects in the production of composite parts at an early stage and determine whether corrective action needs to be taken. In FLASH-COMP, the partners are developing non-destructive inspection and monitoring tools to obtain key process parameters. An on-line defect severity estimation tool will also be developed to predict the occurrence of defects and estimate their severity to suggest the optimal solution. This severity is useful in suggesting optimal control strategies such as feedback and feedforward, so a decision support system is being developed. In addition, an interoperable software platform for data sharing will be created. The complete FLASH-COMP solution will be demonstrated in a testbed, allowing experimental validation of the concept and two industrial use cases, ensuring replicability and paving the way for future exploitation of the results. The ultimate goal is to optimise the composite manufacturing process to achieve zero defects and consequently reduce the generation of component and product related waste.

Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services

The project is applying for the Standardisation Booster service to enhance the development and implementation of their Flashcomp’s standardisation roadmap. The project aims to codify innovative requirements, such as interoperability, methodologies, and processes, and the support from the Standardisation Booster will be crucial in achieving these goals:

The booster services can best help the project in the following ways:

  1. Expert Guidance on Pre-Standardisation Documents: The Standardisation Booster can provide it with the necessary guidance to initiate a pre-standardisation document. This will ensure that its innovative methodologies and processes are formally recognised and can be widely adopted.
  2. Evaluated SoA Analysis: The service can assist the project in revise a thorough State of the Art (SoA) analysis, including relevant standardisation Technical Committees at both EU (CEN) and global (ISO) levels. This analysis encompass existing standards, both official (e.g., ISO, EN) and proprietary, ensuring it has a solid foundation for its standardisation activities.
  3. Identification of Standardisation Gaps: With the booster’s support, the project can effectively identify gaps in current standards and align the project’s needs with future standardisation activities. This will help in addressing any shortcomings and ensuring the project’s requirements are met.
  4. Liaison with Technical Committees: The booster can facilitate liaison with relevant CEN and ISO Technical Committees, promoting active collaboration and ensuring the project aligns with the broader standardisation community.

In conclusion, the Standardisation Booster can help the project develop a standardisation roadmap on the described topics by providing expert guidance for pre-standardisation documents, revise with the State of the Art analysis and identifying standardisation gaps, and facilitating collaboration with relevant technical committees. This support will be essential for achieving its standardisation goals of creation of standardisation roadmaps specific on flashcomp topic for and ensuring the success of the project.
