Project Name: 5G ExPerimentation Infrastructure hosting Cloud-nativE Netapps for public proTection and disaster RElief
Description
The 5G-EPICENTRE aims to develop an open end-to-end 5G experimentation platform, designed specifically to cater to the needs of public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) operations. Utilising an open service-oriented architecture and best DevOps practices, the platform seeks to empower SMEs and developers with the knowledge and tools necessary to create and experiment with cutting-edge 5G applications for first responders and crisis management. By offering open access to 5G network resources, the platform will serve as a valuable open-source repository for PPDR network applications.
A series of use cases will be employed to assess the platform's performance across the 3 ITU-defined service types (eMBB, mMTC, and URLLC) and to evaluate its secure interoperability capabilities. Engaged SMEs and organisations, which are active players in public security and disaster management, will act as key enablers for evaluating the 5G-EPICENTRE’s effectiveness in addressing real-world needs. The realisation of these use cases will also allow for the measurement of relevant 5G KPIs, particularly those related to service creation time.
The project partners have made significant strides in the areas of remote experimentation, use case development, and standardisation. To contribute to the standardisation of mission-critical communications, public safety, and disaster response, they have actively monitored and participated in various standardisation bodies and initiatives. Their efforts include involvement in the European Telecommunications Standards Institute's (ETSI) Plugtests events, seeking opportunities for contribution in the 3rd Generation Partnership Project, and targeting potential contributions to international standards up until the project’s official conclusion.
Throughout the remaining duration of the 5G-EPICENTRE’s, partners are committed to seek opportunities that could add robust contributions to various standards focusing on PPDR and other relevant verticals. By advancing innovation and improving standardisation across the board, 5G-EPICENTRE’s aims to play a pivotal role in shaping the future of 5G technology in the realm of public protection and disaster relief.
Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services
The 5G-EPICENTRE Consortium recognizes the importance of standardisation in ensuring the widespread adoption, interoperability, and long-term success of their 5G experimentation platform for public protection and disaster relief (PPDR) operations. As such, the Consortium is eager to apply for a Standardisation Booster service to further enhance their contributions to the development of mission-critical communications, public safety, and disaster response standards. By availing the Standardisation Booster service, and through the expert guidance provided, the 5G-EPICENTRE project aims to achieve continuous improvement, as well as to maximise the long-term impact of 5G-EPICENTRE on 5G technology and the PPDR sector.
