Project Name: Recyclable Elastomeric Plastics safely and sUstainably designed and produced via enzymatic Recycling of Post-cOnsumer waSte strEams
Description
REPurpose integrates the SSbD concept to create the world's first infinitely recyclable and additive-free rubbery materials, based on local post-consumer plastic waste and integrated with biocarbon to optimise properties for a broad spectrum of applications overturning new standards of cost-function-ecology. Advanced polymer backbone design gives REP polymers unique characteristics of biodegradability and infinite recyclability through enzymatic recycling.
Task 2.2 Safety assessment and alignment with regulation and standardisation
A critical review of the most advanced standards for the targeted materials (incl. eco-labelling schemes) will be conducted.
Their appropriateness will be assessed, identifying potential gaps related to unmet needs and circularity requirements
across the value and supply chains including the end users and sorting plants technologies. These gaps will be analysed
to devise measures to overcome them and to propose new related standards, if required. The consortium will discuss the
proposals with the EU Committee for Standardisation (CEN) and other Standardisation Committees at national level.
Opportunities for standardisation of the certification procedure will be discussed. AIM has ample of experience in this
regard.71 An analysis of the process efficiency will be carried out based on the mass balance methodology and the Chain
of Custody (ISO 22095:2020) or similar ones.
KPI: Proposals for standardisation (draft standard adjusted to REPurpose materials and processes and presented to ≥1 standardisation committee) and recommendations for policy makers.
The different Committees for standardisation of the construction, consumer goods and automotive sector together with other Committees covering relevant aspects for REPurpose, independent from the applications considered, have been identified. All the identified standards will be further followed during the project for their progress. The steps to prepare an IWA or a CWA have been also identified. Recommendations for policy makers (additives’ inventory, standardisation proposals and REP safety and regulatory compliance) will be submitted.
Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services
They need assessment to develop a new standard in the most efficient and appropriate way. Also the propject needs assessment to choose the best scope of the possible standard to be developed during the project, according to the work done.
