Project Name: Modular Big Data Applications for Holistic Energy Services in Buildings
Open Call Topic(s): Sustainable digitalisation
Description
MATRYCS project aims at addressing the emerging challenges in big data management for buildings with an open holistic solution aimed at creating a European approach to the Business to Business platforms, able to give a competitive solution to the European stakeholders operating in this sector and to open new market opportunities.
The overall vision and the main objective of MATRYCS is to define and deploy a Reference Architecture for Buildings Data exchange, management and real-time processing, and to translate this reference architecture into an Open, Cloud-based Data Analytics Toolbox (MATRYCS Modular Toolbox). It will enable AI-based cross-sector analytics for smart energy-efficient buildings, based on seamless data information-knowledge exchange under respective sovereignty and regulatory principles.
The MATRYCS technical solution consists of three main pillars:
- the MATRYCS-GOVERNANCE encompassing modules related to data collection, semantic annotation and distributed storage,
- the MATRYCS-PROCESSING including machine learning (ML) and deep learning (DL) models and
- the MATRYCS-ANALYTICS providing a set of analytics tools as a service (SaaS/PaaS/IaaS models).
On top of the MATRYCS platform, the project defines four main categories of buildings' services that will be developed and tested in the context of 11 Large Scale Pilots.

We would like to better approach the contribution to standards, understanding concrete ways for identifying the more related standards for the project results and concrete ways for contributing to them when partners don’t have specific connections to the relevant committees.
Main Standardisation Interests
Task T7.3 “Connecting to EU-funded Projects / Initiatives and Standardisation Processes” include some activities about standardisation. The consortium has to create interactions with projects, relevant initiatives along IoT and big data as well as with standardisation bodies in order to have the opportunity to be involved in relevant working groups of selected Committees and establish a bidirectional channel of information flow between the project and such committees to discuss, consider and even influence emerging standards.
This task started at M10 ( July 2021) the main activities are focused on identifying the relevant projects, initiatives and standardization bodies. In terms of initiatives, the project partners have already the possibility to contribute to initiatives like: BDVA/DAIRO (in terms of Big data management for energy context), OPENDEI (in terms of reference architecture and interoperability), GAIA X (in terms of a reference architecture for data spaces), ETIP-SNET (in terms of a reference architecture for data management in energy context), The European framework for sustainable buildings – Level(s) and European Cybers Security Organisation.
We have identified as well, some standardisation committees that potentially could be relevant for MATRYCS results but only a few of those are manned by project partners.
