European Commission publishes guidelines for R&I knowledge valorisation

On 9 August the European Commission published new EU guidelines on how to increase the social and economic value of research results, aligning policy principles and measures for national, regional, and local policy makers to maximize the transformation of research and innovation (R&I) results into solutions that benefit society.

The guiding principles aim to assist R&I organisations in leveraging the value of their intellectual assets. It also recommends the development of management strategies and the promotion of skills to aid the efforts and ensure that citizens in all Member States can better benefit from R&I results.

The proposal is part of the plan to revive the European Research Area (ERA), the EU’s single market for research, which the Commission first introduced in September 2020. Boosting knowledge valorisation is essential to deliver rapidly new solutions to global challenges and opportunities created under the green and digital transformation.

The guiding principles for knowledge valorisation will be further supported by two Codes of Practice on the smart use of the intellectual property and for researchers on standardisation.

HSbooster.eu, the new service for Horizon Europe and Horizon 2020 projects will be providing expert services to R&I projects to help them increase their ability to uptake Standardisation.

Project coordinator Nicholas Ferguson from COMMpla explains, "HSbooster.eu will provide a tailormade online platform and resources for standardisation experts in Europe to advise 1,000 Horizon Europe and H2020 projects on how best their research results can lead to the revision or creation of standards. Our services and training modules will help projects assess the standardisation readiness of their results and match them up with experts in the field who can guide them on how these results can feed into standardisation working groups or technical committees."

The HSBooster.eu initiative is very much in line with the EC’s new guidelines for knowledge valorisation in research and innovation. Discover HSbooster.eu’s vision, watch our videos.
