Project Name: Verification through Accelerated testing Leading to Improved wave energy Designs
Description
The primary objective of VALID project toward the standardisation dimension is to consolidate and analyse the information collected from the preceding work packages to assess the medium to longer-term impacts and produce detailed guidance and recommendations tailored for the advancement of wave energy technology. This involves critical examination of the current state of technology, identifying gaps, and proposing innovative solutions to address these gaps. A dedicated WP places a significant emphasis on the standardisation aspect, focusing on two main areas:
-
The VALID Testing Platform: This is a new platform designed for the testing of wave energy converters (WECs). The platform's purpose is to simulate various ocean conditions and assess the performance and durability of WECs under those conditions. Standardising the VALID testing platform ensures consistency in testing procedures and results, making it easier to compare different technologies and identify the most promising ones.
-
Novel Testing Procedures for Critical Component Testing at Low Technology Readiness Levels (TRLs): Developing new testing procedures for components at low TRLs is essential for early detection of potential issues and assessment of component performance and reliability. Standardising these procedures ensures that they are rigorous, comprehensive, and can be widely adopted, facilitating the development of more robust and reliable wave energy technologies.
Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services
They reached out to the booster because of their inability to sway standardisation bodies, stemming from the fact that the platform isn't widely adopted across the sector. As a result, this may lead to reduced technology convergence and compatibility.
