Project Name: Smart Grid-Efficient Interactive Buildings<br />
Description
EVELIXIA is a collaborative project involving 36 organisations from 12 EU countries, aiming to transform buildings into "Buildings as Active Utility Nodes" (BAUNs). The project seeks to make buildings energy-efficient, connected through two-way communication with the grid, smart by leveraging sensors and analytics to optimise energy use and occupant preferences, and flexible by adapting energy consumption to utility signals and occupant needs. It advances through five innovation pathways: Building-to-Grid (B2G) services, Grid-to-Building (G2B) services, human-to-building interaction, systems interoperability, and innovative hardware for energy flexibility. These solutions are being tested at seven large-scale pilot sites across Europe. The project also focuses on engaging stakeholders like DSOs, aggregators, and consumers, enabling data exchange across sectors and empowering citizens as both adopters and co-creators of its solutions. Key expected outcomes include the demonstration of scalable B2G and G2B services, such as demand-side flexibility and peer-to-peer energy trading. It also aims to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 17%, energy consumption by 13.5%, and increase renewable energy generation by 11%. Additionally, EVELIXIA seeks to enhance operational flexibility by 25% and achieve up to 100% self-consumption of renewable energy.
Concerning the standardisation objectives, the project aims to identify the non-technical aspects (regulatory normative technical, safety, health, environmental) that can foster the replication phase of EVELIXIA solutions. Therefore, three main objectives will be pursued: a) Simplification: reducing the number of regulatory barriers and standards; b) Unification: allowing international exchanges and comparisons; and c) Specification: avoid integration/installation errors, facilitate replication via standardised solutions.
Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services
Their intention to apply for the Standardisation Booster service, is to support EVELIXIA’s mission of transforming buildings into active utility nodes (BAUNs) by addressing the critical standardisation challenges required for large-scale adoption. The project’s focus is on simplifying regulatory barriers, unifying standards for international comparisons, and specifying solutions for promoting the replication of its innovative solutions across Europe. They do believe that the Standardisation Booster experts' knowledge, would enhance EVELIXIA’s ability to get more familiar and also align with existing frameworks and facilitate the creation of standardised approaches.
