BEYOND

Project Name: A reference big data platform implementation and AI analytics toolkit toward innovative data sharing-driven energy service ecosystems for the building sector and beyond

Description

Buildings are generators of a vast amounts of data: from Building Energy Management Systems (BEMS), smart metering and sub-metering information (demand), IoT device information (sensing/control), distributed generation (RES), storage and electric vehicle data, altogether characterized by continuously increasing growth rate, multi-diverse spatiotemporal resolutions and huge volume.

The BEYOND reference architecture incorporates data from the building domain and from other diverse sources (energy system, energy market, IoT devices, historical data, APIs etc.). The most promising value of big data derived from buildings environments is sequestrated in sharing such targeted information with energy market stakeholders and actors. Such stakeholders could be directly or indirectly linked with the energy performance in buildings i.e., ESCOs, local authorities, DSOs, energy retailers, aggregators, district heating network operators etc.

The BEYOND solution delivers a Big Data Management Platform, on top of which an advanced AI analytics toolkit are offered allowing for the delivery of derivative data and intelligence out of a blend of real-life building data and relevant data coming from external sources.

In the framework of BEYOND, a Common Information Model (CIM) has been designed based on existing buildings and energy-related data standards. The BEYOND CIM design is mainly driven by existing knowledge on relevant standards, as well as on the needs of the BEYOND demonstrators and end user tools.  The principal novel element of BEYOND comes from the fact it considers a building as a part of the energy system. This interaction with different standards coming from different sectors, all aggregated into BEYOND CIM is, in fact, the main standardisation contribution of BEYOND.

Reason for applying to HSbooster.eu services

The developed standardisation BEYOND Punch list indicates the key mappings to existing established standards. However, it is not possible to single out any of the above standards where BEYOND contributions taken out of the context of the project are specific. The principal novel element of BEYOND comes from the fact it considers a building as a part of the energy system. Therefore, the project's achievements could provide additional advantages when adjusting to new standards or engaging in further standardisation endeavors within the building domain. Furthermore, through the Standardization Booster, these outcomes may exert influence on the processes and results of standardisation in the combined domains of building and energy.
